In my work, I try to transcend the purely utilitarian and demonstrate characteristics of sculptural and tactile elegance. The pieces are primarily done through raku firing. In past work, I have explored the human figure, using the model as well as figurative works from throughout history as reference material. At this point, the work has evolved into birth forms such as the egg and the piece of fruit. My influences range from Etruscan terracotta works from my native Tuscany, the works of Donatello, Della Robbia and other Renaissance masters, to modern masters such as Marino Marini. Matisse’s famous relief series of “Backs” has also provided me inspiration in incorporating the human figure at various stages of abstraction.”
