Teaching Philosophy

The depth of a student’s understanding of a medium is determined by their conception of and interface with different facets inside and out of the medium.  My duty as a teacher is to provide a creative learning environment that fosters and encourages these ideas while furnishing a helping hand to their artistic and intellectual development.  Any course in photography, art history or other art practice is a precious occasion which can expand one’s dialogue with the visual world in ways that apply to but are not limited to daily life.  Art can be viewed as the defining factor for culture and varying stages of history, and it deserves to be further integrated into the collegiate curriculum in a way that comprises a well-rounded understanding of art history and its placement into modern dialogue and experience.
