Anyone can go to the nearest Barnes and Nobles and buy a self-help book or a book for dummies, but nothing compares to having a teacher. It is a privilege that should be taken very carefully. A teacher has the opportunity to pass on a piece of his/herself to someone else. Whether they know it or not, the student walks away with something they didn't bargain for. A teacher has the power to influence a student with a positive or negative connotation of the material being presented.
I may not remember all the names and faces of my classmates from grade school and earlier, but I do remember my teachers. To this day, I can bring myself back to second grade and relive the excitement of learning how to make a cursive "G" for the first time.
Mrs. Dallenbach made learning cursive exciting and whether she knows it or not, she imprinted something in me till the day I die.
My only hope is that I can teach with a passion that will inspire someone to learn and be just as passionate as I am. Henry Brooks Adams once said "A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops."
