Fundamentals of Landscape Painting

This workshop will introduce students to the fundamentals of both studio and plein-air painting. For the first few weeks, students will work with line drawings and value studies of the landscape similar to the tradition set by Edgar Payne. The other weeks of class will spent plein air painting at various Lehigh Valley locations, as weather permits.

Portrait & Genre Painting

Whether you would like to capture your subject’s likeness in portraiture or depict your subject in scenes from everyday life, this class offers the basic guidelines that will help you create a successful painting. Some topics that will be covered are proportions, color mixing, portrait painting techniques, painting facial features, composition, and lighting. You will learn in a supportive environment and use what you have learned to develop your own personal style.

Watercolor

Pastels

Students will be taken on a pastel journey with a very forgiving medium.  Application methods, types of paper, many types of pastels, pastel accessories, and a variety of techniques will be explored.  We will work on skills of observation and interpretation with an artist’s eye.  Beginners and advanced students are always welcome and may work at their own pace. This will be a friendly and fun experience.

Drawing & Oil Painting

Expand your creativity, repertoire of skills, and visual perception. Teens and adults with aspirations to become artists will develop their creative and technical skills, preparing them for future study.  Students will increase knowledge of media and techniques related to the elements of design principles, with guidance from the instructor.  This class will focus on techniques in classical realism. Students will complete finished works they will be proud to display or add to a college acceptance portfolio. Students will be responsible to purchase their own supplies for this class.
